Love Wins Out

______________________________________________________

Amy wept as she noted the anger on Jason's normally placid, smiling face. She herself was furious, although she tried to calm down after absorbing her boyfriend's last words. He yelled at her to leave. Why should I have to leave? she thought miserably. This is my house, too!

Amy pushed back long strands of her auburn hair from her face as tears continued welling in her hazel eyes. The only choice she had after failing to rationally talk with Jason was to leave. He wouldn't listen to her, nor did he even seem to want to. She turned and ran out of the house she shared with him and out onto the street, not even bothering to pack clothes or other belongings. All she wanted to do was get away from him. She felt that, despite this horrible dispute, she and Jason would get back together and eventually patch things up. Luckily, she managed to grab the keys to her black Nissan Altima before going through the front door.

Drying her tears, Amy got into her car and started driving, thinking she would just ride aimlessly for a few hours and then return to the house and to Jason and just make up with him. Instead, after she drove out onto a major road, she realized she was heading straight for Adam's house.

Adam...she thought. Although Adam was Jay's best friend, Amy felt as though he was the only person she could talk to about something like this. Aside from Jason, Adam was her closest and best friend in the world. Of course, they were friends strictly through their mutual association with Jay, as well as her friends Matt and Jeff, but when they'd met, they had instantly hit it off.

Approaching Adam's house, Amy parked her car in front of it and hoped he was home because she didn't know what she'd do if he wasn't. Fortunately, when she pressed the doorbell, the front door opened within a minute, and Adam was suddenly standing in front of her, a smile playing on his full lips and a merry twinkle in his beautiful green eyes.

"Amy...hi! What a pleasant surprise," he said, his brilliant white teeth gleaming. She gazed silently up into his handsome face, and something inside her felt as though it were about to break. At the same time, she felt safe and comfortable, even though, at six-foot four, Adam was nearly an entire foot taller than her. She tried in vain to smile back at him and to speak, but before she could utter any words, she broke down and started to cry again.

Shocked, Adam instantly ushered her into the house, closing the door behind her. Tears were streaming freely down Amy's cheeks, and Adam wordlessly put his arm around her and led her to the living room sofa, where they sat beside one another. He reached over to a small table next to the couch and handed her a tissue. Finally, gazing at her with a sympathetic expression on his face, he said softly, "It's alright...don't cry..."

Amy wiped her tears away with the tissue and glanced up at him sorrowfully. He continued to look at her sympathetically, reaching out to gently touch her shoulder until she calmed down.

After Amy was a bit more composed, Adam asked in a soft voice, "What happened? What's wrong that has you so upset?"

She took a deep breath and blurted, "Jay and I had a huge fight! And in the end of it, he threw me out..." She started to cry a little again, but managed to tell Adam the entire story before she became too overwhelmed. He listened quietly, and when Amy was finished, he said, "I'm sorry you're so upset. I think Jay definitely overreacted and that his temper got the best of him."

Amy nodded and said, "Yes...I couldn't believe how angry he was. I mean, we've had arguments before, but never anything this bad. He wouldn't even listen to talk rationally afterward!"

Adam grasped her hand in his and said wisely, "Well, he'll come around...he's just angry right now."

Amy didn't respond, but just looked up into Adam's face to see whether or not he really believed his own words after hearing her story. Then he suddenly stood up and exclaimed, "I'm so sorry - I didn't even offer you anything to drink. Would you like anything?"

Amy nodded. "Yeah, after that horrible fight with Jay, I could sure use some booze." She was only half-kidding.

Adam chuckled at her attempt at a lighthearted response and said, "Don't worry, I'll get you something." She watched as he disappeared into the kitchen, her eyes following the movements of his long, blue denim-clad legs.

He returned a minute later carrying two glasses in his hands and a bottle of wine under his arm. As Adam set everything down on the coffee table and then joined Amy once again on the sofa, he said, "I decided I needed a drink, too...and we can talk as long as you want, Ames. As long as you need a sympathetic ear, you have me."

Amy looked up to meet his eyes and smiled gratefully, happy to have him for such a good friend. Adam poured a glass of wine and handed it to her, then poured one for himself. Amy took a long swallow before she said, "Thanks, Adam, you're a great friend."

Adam looked into her eyes and smiled softly before saying, "Think nothing of it...after all, what are friends for?"

The pair drank and talked for a couple of hours, and Amy took off her shoes and made herself more comfortable. She and Adam started to have the usual kind of deep discussion really good friends often have, about past and current relationships and problems during them. Adam talked about a couple of former girlfriends for awhile, but Amy spoke only of Jason. After awhile, talking so much about Jay re-ignited her anger toward him when she realized the ridiculousness of the situation, and of something else.

While Adam was in the middle of speaking, Amy suddenly interrupted him, yelling, "Damn it!" Concern flooded Adam's sensitive face as he gazed at her. "What?"

Amy said, "After all this, it just occurred to me...it's finally sunk in - I don't have anywhere to go! Jason kicked me out. Oh, God, what am I gonna do?"

Without hesitation, Adam said, "You can stay here if you want."

Amy looked up to meet his kind emerald eyes. "No, I couldn't take advantage of you like that."

"You wouldn't be..." Adam replied, "...you're welcome to stay, Amy. I wouldn't want you to be inconvenienced by having to search for a decent apartment when you could just as easily stay here with me." Their eyes met, and in his, Amy saw warmth and compassion, and something else - maybe fondness.

After a moment, she said, "Okay, I'll stay here with you. Thanks a lot, Adam. You're really sweet."

Adam's face brightened into a broad smile, exposing those amazing teeth again, and, gazing into her eyes, he admitted, "I'm just glad to help you in any way." They stared at each other for a minute before Amy remembered something else.

"Oh, no..."

"What?" Adam questioned.

"When I left, I didn't even bring anything with me, not even a change of clothes...I don't even have anything to wear to bed!"

Adam looked at her with concern and asked, "Do you have a set of keys to the house? So you can get in whether or not Jay is home to get your stuff?"

Amy nodded. "Thank goodness I do - good thing my car keys aren't separate from my house keys."

"Don't worry about anything...I'll give you something to wear to sleep tonight, and then tomorrow you can go get some clothes at your house," Adam said.

Amy frowned and said, "Well, I don't really want to see Jason, but I do want my clothes and some other stuff. Fine, if Jason is going to be a jerk, let him be a jerk, but I'm still getting my own stuff - it is mine, anyway." Adam smiled at her, squeezing her hand reassuringly, and then they continued to talk and drink.

They talked awhile longer, drinking and eating a light late dinner. Before they knew it, it was actually after one in the morning. Amy noticed the time on her watch after realizing how sleepy she felt. She told Adam that she couldn't believe it was so late. He stood up and said, "You can go to sleep now if you want. I'll get you some pillows and a blanket and something to sleep in...there's already a sheet on the sofa bed." He disappeared quickly down the hallway to get the stuff.

Amy sat there quietly and glanced around the room. She felt slightly lightheaded from all the wine she'd drank, and suddenly, all the good feelings she had been experiencing spending time with Adam vanished. She realized that for at least the last hour or so, Jason hadn't even been on her mind. Now, as she thought about him again, she wondered what he was doing at that moment. Amy felt a sudden burst of anger once again at Jay's treatment of her when they'd had their argument. She stared at the floor directly in front of her and concentrated her anger so intensely that she didn't even realize at first that Adam had returned to the room.

Suddenly, she heard his voice. "Are you okay, Amy?"

Broken out of her reverie, she glanced up to see him standing a few feet away from her, holding out all the bedding he brought her. "Yeah..." she said, "...I was just thinking about Jay and how angry I feel toward him now."

Adam simply said, "Oh." He came over to her and said, "Well, here you go. I hope you'll be comfortable." As Amy took everything from him, she gave him a weak smile of thanks, and Adam said, "I'll open up the bed for you."

Amy stood up from the sofa and moved a few feet away to allow Adam to open the bed. Afterward, she thanked him, and he smiled at her. A few minutes later, he wished her a goodnight and left Amy to get ready for bed. She washed up a little in the bathroom and changed into the long T-shirt Adam had loaned her to wear. When she turned off the light and got into the bed, she continued thinking about Jay and wondered if he missed her. Probably not, she thought bitterly. Although she was still very angry, she felt sad as well, and she couldn't help crying herself to sleep. Somehow, she managed to keep it silent so Adam couldn't hear her.

*

The next day, Amy did exactly as Adam suggested the night before - she went to the house, used her key to let herself in and gathered some of her clothing, her toothbrush, hairbrush, some makeup and other things into a big traveling bag to take back to Adam's. Luckily, Jason was nowhere to be seen at the time. That suited Amy just fine, as she wasn't ready to confront him just yet, although she wondered where he was and what he was doing.

After a couple of weeks, Amy was still staying with Adam. To her surprise, he didn't ask her to leave, and when she questioned him about it, he laughed and told her, "That's what friends are for," and that she could stay as long as she wanted. She felt so fortunate to have a friend like him.

After all this time, Amy still hasn't seen or even heard anything from Jason, although he probably didn't know where she was anyway. She wondered if Adam called him and let him know that she was safe, or staying with him, but instantly rejected that idea. Jason would have a fit if he knew she was staying with his best friend!

Amy suspected that Jason might have called her mother, thinking that maybe she moved back home out of desperation. She called her mom to find out whether or not he called her. It turned out that he did not, and when Amy hung up the phone, she just stood there with her hand still on the receiver, deep in thought, worried.

Adam came up behind her and asked, "What's wrong? You look so upset."

Amy turned around to face him, running one hand through her red locks, unable to hold back her tears. "I just got off the phone with my mother. I just thought Jason might have gotten in touch with her trying to locate me, but she hasn't heard from him." She lifted her eyes and met Adam's. He was gazing at her with sympathy written all over his face. The tears trickled down Amy's cheeks, but she didn't care.

Unable to stand seeing her so upset, Adam gently but firmly took her into his arms and gave her a big hug, pleading, "Don't cry, Ames...please don't cry. I hate that you are so upset. But things will get better, I promise."

She pulled away a little to look up into his eyes. Adam gazed down into her face and gently wiped some tears away from her cheeks. They just stared at each other for a moment before he abruptly glanced away, then released her and walked away, mumbling that he had to do something.

Amy gazed after him wonderingly. She mentally acknowledged that Adam made her feel so much calmer by just being there.

*

Several more weeks passed, and by this time, Adam and Amy had been on the road for awhile with the WWF. So as to avoid suspicion and speculation, they traveled separately. Amy traveled and roomed with her friend Trish while Adam did so with Jay. While at a show at the Cow Palace, which was a homecoming for them, as they lived in San Francisco, Amy declined Adam's offer to attempt to get her and Jay together to talk, as she felt it was Jay's duty to do this - but she asked him to keep an eye out for Jason. She asked him to cue her in about him - about his mood and whether or not he asked about her or even mentioned her at all.

They were sitting in the living room one night while they were off, sharing a bottle of wine and each other's company. Amy hadn't seen Jay in weeks, not even in the hallway of the arenas or hotels. She asked, "So, how was it?" What she really wanted to know was if Jason mentioned anything at all about her.

Adam turned to her, flipping back some long blond locks and said, "It was okay. My match against Chris Jericho could've been better, but we sure wowed the crowd anyway." He grew silent for a long moment, eyes slightly downcast before Amy asked, "Adam...how was Jay? Did he..."

Adam said, "He was pretty quiet, but I guess that was because he was so focused on his match against Matt. He wasn't in a particularly chatty mood the last time I saw him, but he seemed okay."

Amy looked down for a moment, then raised her eyes to meet Adam's. "He didn't mention me at all?"

Adam winced, shaking his head, and said, "No, Ames, he didn't. I'm sorry...but then again, he didn't mention much of anything at all."

Amy nodded and said, "Well, I figured as much. I guess after all this time, I should just accept that it's over between Jason and me."

Adam didn't say anything, knowing this was something Amy had to just verbalize and accept. After awhile, Amy realized it was late and decided to change into her pajamas for bed. When she told Adam she was going to do that, he offered to leave and go to bed himself, but she protested, telling him it was okay, that he could stay up and continue talking with her - that she wanted to do exactly that.

Amy disappeared into the bathroom for a moment to change into her pajamas, which were a short top and shorts set for summer or late spring. After changing and washing up for bed, she returned to the living room.

Adam looked up and gazed at her intensely, as it was the first time he saw her wearing such revealing garments, despite the two months she'd been living at his house. He noted how alluringly the top hugged her full breasts.

Amy strolled over to the coffee table, standing over Adam, to pour herself another glass of wine. While she stood there, he looked her up and down, drinking her in.

Although Amy noticed Adam examining her so intensely, for some reason, she didn't mind. In fact, it made her feel very good. After a few minutes, she sat down on the sofa beside him and they continued talking for another hour or so.

*

Another month passed. In all that time, Jason still hadn't tried to contact Amy, which still hurt her, but only a little now, and she could finally accept it. She all but stopped asking Adam about him, and although Adam still occasionally offered to get them together to talk, she always declined.

One night, Amy and Adam were talking and drinking again, which had almost become a custom of theirs. After a few hours, Amy became tired and prepared for bed, and when she came back to the living room, Adam was still there. When he saw that she was ready for bed, he said, "I'd better go turn in, too. I won't keep you up for half the night again." He rose from the sofa. "Well, goodnight."

Adam was about to leave the room, but Amy called, "Adam, wait..."

He stopped upon hearing her voice and turned around in the middle of the doorway to gaze at her. She smiled shyly at him and walked over to him, then said softly, "I just wanted to thank you for being such a good friend. You let me stay here when I had no place to go. You've been there for me, and you still are...in fact, I can't believe you haven't gotten sick of me and haven't kicked me out a long time ago." She moved slightly closer to him until she was standing directly in front of Adam, gazing up into his handsome face as he gazed back down into her pretty hazel eyes.

Adam studied her face, slowly taking in each of her features in turn, and whispered, "I would never do that - kick you out. You need a place to stay, and to be honest, I'm glad you haven't left because I really enjoy your company and would miss you if you did leave."

Amy looked up to meet Adam's deep, dark green eyes, and he gazed at her with a very soft, gentle expression on his face. She moved slowly even closer to him until she was in his embrace. He held her gently, and she moved slightly to gaze up into his face again. Adam's eyes, locked with hers, looked even softer. She tilted her face up and he leaned his head down until their lips met and they were kissing deeply.

Amy was nearly overwhelmed by the intensity of Adam's kiss, and she nearly lost her breath as his warm tongue spiraled around hers. Her body responded instantly, ready for whatever he might want to do with her - to her. My God, she thought.

After a long moment, Adam lifted his head from hers and gazed intently at her before whispering, "I'd better get to bed...goodnight." He parted from her and left before Amy could even utter a goodnight back to him.

Amy stood wondering for a moment, her fingertips touching her lips, where Adam had just kissed her. She suddenly realized what an enigma he truly was. She felt perplexed as to why he left her so abruptly after the intense passion they just experienced.

*

The next morning, for some reason, both Adam and Amy acted like nothing special had happened the night before. Amy didn't understand it, but after the way Adam so abruptly left her the night before and then never mentioned anything, she just decided to ignore it for the time being. However, she realized that there was a very strong and powerful attraction between Adam and herself, and she also acknowledged that she was falling deeply in love with him. She sensed, somehow, that Adam was in love with her as well. She suddenly thought of Jason, but then realized that she didn't want to. More than three months had passed since she last saw or spoke to him.

Adam left for a WWF appearance in the area early in the afternoon and didn't return home until about midnight, so they didn't have any time to talk. Amy guessed that once he arrived home, they would be able to do so, but instead, when he returned, he claimed he was too tired to stay up and was going right to bed. Amy felt hurt but decided to turn in early herself. Still, she felt badly that she hadn't had a chance to talk to Adam all day.

She fell asleep quickly that night but woke up after only about an hour and a half. Amy felt uncomfortable in the bed and turned over onto her other side, but when she didn't fall back asleep after fifteen or twenty minutes, she rose and went to the bathroom to splash cold water on her face.

After leaving the bathroom, Amy intended to return right back to bed, but instead went to Adam's room. His door was wide open, and there some moonlight shined down on his bed. Amy peered closer into the room and saw him half on his side, looking sound asleep. His long blond hair looked almost like a halo around his head.

Amy told herself that maybe she should just go back to her own bed after all, but she didn't listen to the voice in her head and instead entered Adam's room. She sat down on the side of the bed he was facing and just stared down at him silently. Somehow, just looking at him calmed her down. Just being near him soothed her soul.

After a moment, Adam stirred, sensing that someone was watching him sleep. He suddenly wakened and blinked up at her. When he realized she was sitting there, he sat up a little and groggily said, "Amy..."

Amy reached out with one hand to gently touch his shoulder. She whispered, "I'm sorry I woke you. Well, I woke up and couldn't fall back asleep, but for some reason, instead of going back to my own bed, I came here."

Adam gazed at her through the moonlight and whispered, "Do you want to lie here with me?"

She returned his gaze, and without another word, Adam slid over a little to his right to make room for Amy to lie beside him under the covers. She slipped in beside him and felt his muscular arms encircle her. She put her own arms around him and buried her face into his chest for a moment before lifting her head.

Their faces were so close that Amy could feel Adam's warm breath on her cheek, and she savored the warmth of his body against hers. The next thing she knew, Adam was kissing her deeply and passionately, and she returned every kiss with a fervor she never knew existed within her. As her heart pounded rapidly, she lifted one hand to caress his long, soft golden hair.

Their kiss was so intense that both of them were breathing heavily, and both their hands began to roam. After a few minutes, Amy pulled back to sit up and look down into Adam's eyes, and he looked her up and down in the moonlight and gazed directly into her eyes with fascination. She reached out to gently caress his cheek and whispered, "Adam, make love to me..."

Adam blinked uncertainly but kept his gaze locked onto her and asked, "Are you sure?"

Amy whispered softly, "Oh, yes..." Then, without a word, Adam sat up to hold her tightly against him and kissed her tenderly but firmly on the lips, and she kissed him back passionately. As they continued kissing, Adam slowly undressed her while she reached out and undressed him.

Amy held her breath in delicious anticipation as she lowered herself onto Adam and guided his entrance. She let out a small gasp as she felt him sliding deep inside her and then rode him with smooth, regular strides. She felt grateful for the moonlight, as she was able to study his face in the darkness and drink in the beauty of him. God, he's so beautiful, she thought.

As she climaxed, she cried out his name and clung to him, both their bodies sweat-slicked. Adam gently pulled her down to him so that they could kiss before he rolled her over and re-entered her doggy style. After he came, he leaned down to kiss her, and then they lay spent in each other's arms.

*

The next morning, Amy awakened in Adam's arms, both of them still naked and tangled in the sheets, and she realized it was a feeling she loved. When she looked up into his face, she realized that Adam was already awake and looked as if he had been for some time because he was just gazing deeply at her with a content expression on his face. His smile broadened, revealing his amazingly big, white teeth. He kissed her heartily on the cheek and said, "Good morning..."

Amy smiled. "Good morning yourself."

Adam kissed her softly on the lips, then said, eyes gleaming, "Last night was so amazing."

Amy smiled slyly and ducked her head slightly. She still couldn't quite believe what had happened between them. In a way, it felt weird because she hadn't been with any guy other than Jason for over three years.

Little more than an hour later, after breakfast, Adam had to go to another appearance in the area, along with Matt and Jeff. Amy assumed that, because he never mentioned Jason, he wouldn't be a part of this appearance.

On the spur of the moment, Amy decided to call Jason to see if they couldn't talk after all the time that had passed. She went so far as to lift the receiver and dial the phone number, but she didn't actually expect him to be home. When he picked up the phone and said "Hello?" she was actually surprised and didn't answer. After he said it again, Amy quickly hung up. She cursed herself for having chickened out.

Afterward, Amy didn't try to call Jason again. Later that day, Adam came back home in a gloomy mood, and Amy didn't understand why because she was in such good spirits over their sudden passion.

When Adam arrived home that afternoon, she told him that she wanted to visit Jason to talk everything over with him after all these months. Adam actually encouraged that, but he seemed and sounded depressed when he spoke the words. Amy asked him about it.

Adam gazed longingly at her and said, "I have to know that last night meant something, that is wasn't just a one-night stand."

Amy winced as she rushed over to Adam and put her arms around him. They gazed into one another's eyes. Staring seriously down into her eyes, Adam said, "I love you..."

Amy gazed deeply up into his green eyes, slightly taken aback, for it was the first time he professed love for her. A sharp, loving pain started its way up her spine and into the pit of her stomach. After a beat, she said softly, "Oh, Adam, it meant something - it meant everything! I love you, too!" She reached up for him, placing her lips on his for a kiss, and his arms tightened around her.

*

Another month passed, and somehow, Amy managed to go to Jason with the intention of talking with him after all the time that had passed between them. She thought it simply ridiculous that they hadn't seen or spoken to one another in over four months. She was no longer angry with Jay and realized that it was because she and Adam were now in love and together.

Amy didn't bother to call Jason beforehand; she just drove over to his and what was once her house unexpectedly. Somehow, even though she never mentioned a word of it, she sensed that Adam knew she was visiting Jason today.

When she arrived, Amy parked the car right outside and then rang the doorbell. Jason answered the door, surprised to see her, of all people. He just gazed at her in shock for a minute before he said, "Amy..." He held the door open wider and said, "Please come in."

Amy complied, and Jay closed the door behind her, gazing upon her as if she were a mirage. They faced each other, just staring for a few minutes until Jason said, "God, Amy..." His beautiful lips formed a big smile, then, before he could utter another word, Amy said, "Hi, Jason...long time no see, huh?"

Jason nodded and said, "Yeah...it's so good to see you. I missed you."

Amy stared at him and asked, "You did? Then why didn't you ever try to contact me, or at least try to find out where I've been for the last four months?" She looked up to meet his blue eyes to study his reaction.

Jason said, "I...I didn't think you'd want to have anything to do with me after that fight we had. I...I acted like a real ass that day." He glanced down, obviously ashamed.

Amy and Jason both remained silent a moment, then he said, "I'm so sorry about that, Ames. I feel so badly now. I was very childish...and I thought I'd lose you after you left, but here you are, actually back. I missed you so much." He moved closer to her, their eyes locked. They embraced in a warm hug, and Amy said softly, "Oh, Jason...I missed you, too."

They looked into one another's eyes, and Jason asked, "Where have you been all this time?"

Amy glanced away a minute but then met his eyes again and said firmly, "I've been staying with Adam."

Jason's face registered surprise, and it was then that Amy knew for sure that Adam had never said a word to him about it. "Really?"

Amy nodded wordlessly, then Jay said, "Well, it doesn't matter...what does matter is that now we're back together."

Amy glanced away again and said, "Well, Jason, that's part of the reason I wanted so badly to talk to you today."

He winced. "Don't tell me you slept with Adam..."

"Jay, I'm not going to justify myself, but I just want to say that so much time has passed since you and me that I knew it was over...Anyway, Adam was there for me. He's a great guy - as you obviously know, since he's your best friend. And...I love him." She stared at Jason, noting the heartbroken expression on his face. She felt as though her own heart was breaking at that expression but continued.

"Jason, I had to tell you this. I also have to know you're alright with this," Amy said.

He met her eyes and said, "Amy, I love you. I thought we would pick up where we left off." He put his arms around her and Amy held him tightly, and suddenly, Jason kissed her on the lips. Despite herself, she kissed him back. After a minute, however, she pulled away and said, "No, Jay, I can't...I can't do this to Adam. He loves me - it would destroy him." Amy pulled away from Jason's hand, which grasped hers, and backed away, staring back at him until she reached the front door. She turned around and left to go back home.

*

Several more months came and went. Adam and Amy became engaged. She immediately agreed to marry him, but she felt she had to make sure it was alright with Jason, even thought they were done. One day, she went to visit him again. At first, Amy hid her engagement ring from him, but then she finally got to the point of her visit.

"Jason, Adam asked me to marry him." She showed him the ring. To Amy's shock and surprise, Jason smiled what appeared to be a genuine smile and said, "Congratulations."

She looked at him and asked, "Is this really okay with you? I mean, I feel the need to have your approval after our past relationship...I still consider you my friend and value your thoughts, feelings and opinions."

Jay smiled again and said, "Well, I think you should marry Adam, because I know you guys really love each other. He's a great guy, and you seem to be really good for him, too...I think you two will be very happy together."

As Amy gazed at Jason, she knew that his smile and words were both genuine, and she smiled back and said, "Thank you, Jay." They hugged. After talking a bit more, Amy left.

When she returned back home, she found Adam in the living room, gazing out a window. As soon as she saw him, she walked right over, behind him. He was so still that Amy was unsure as to whether he realized she was even standing there.

"Hi...what's up?" she said softly.

Adam turned around as if breaking out of a reverie and gazed at her longingly. He said, "Oh, Amy, you came back..."

Amy smiled unsurely and said, "Of course I came back, Adam...where else would I go?"

He stared intensely at her, almost the way a person dying of thirst would stare at a glass of water. "I was afraid you weren't going to come back...I thought you were going to realize you still loved Jay and don't love me...I thought I was going to lose you, and what would I do if that ever happened?" he implored.

Amy winced and moved closer to him and said, "Adam, that won't ever happen...I love you, and I'm going to marry you." She put her arms around him and held him tightly, and he held her back even tighter. She whispered, "I love you."

The two lovers gazed deeply into one another's eyes and held onto each other tightly. They kissed ardently until Adam suddenly pulled away to lift Amy up into his arms. He smiled sweetly at her, his confidence completely regained, and he carried her to the bedroom where he laid her down on the bed and made passionate love to her.
