Hole In My Heart

______________________________________________________

Victoria followed Lilian to the catering room, questions swirling through her mind as she recalled the odd look on the face of Edge. The tall blond man, after such a valiant victory over Kane in his match on the pay-per-view that night, had actually looked scared as he'd entered the women's locker room - to see Lita, no less...

She had a feeling that something was going on, but she had no idea what. She'd been able to read something on Lilian's expression when she'd gestured to her. And she had a feeling that the blonde ring announcer knew something that she *didn't* know.

"So, what gives?"

The little blonde turned around to face her, a bottle of Poland Spring she'd just picked up off a table in her right hand.

"Hmm?"

"Oh, don't play oblivious with me, Garcia," Victoria said, causing her friend's eyes to widen. The taller woman stepped closer to her, her voice reducing in volume just in case someone else should happen along. "What was that all about? Lita and Edge, I mean."

Lilian let out a soft sigh. She wasn't surprised her friend would ask her such a question, but at the same time, she'd never known for certain that Lita hadn't already mentioned her past relationship with the tall Canadian to her. After all, like herself and Stacy Keibler, Victoria was one of the redhead's best friends.

"I guess Edge was just worried about her after what Molly and Gail did tonight." The blonde didn't want to say anything more, as the story wasn't hers to tell. She would much have preferred if Victoria had broached the subject with the redhead herself. But now she was being put in a somewhat awkward, if not completely uncomfortable situation.

"Well, yeah - that much is obvious," the raven-haired diva said with a short nod. "But he seemed so nervous to approach her, you know? What's up, Lil? He have a little crush on Lita or something?" A grin touched the lips of the Women's Champion.

Lilian raised a hand to her long hair, holding it there as she eyed her friend. Victoria really had no clue as to the real story between Lita and Edge.

"No," the little blonde said, shaking her head. "I mean, it does look like he might still have feelings for her, but..."

"Wait..." the dark-haired diva cut in, her hands out toward her friend. "You mean the two of them have a past? When did that happen? God, this is huge!"

The shorter woman cringed as Victoria seemed to relish the mere idea of juicy gossip, even though it concerned one of her closest friends.

"Vicki, you don't understand..."

"Oh, come on! It's *me*... You can share the details with me." The raven-haired woman winked, and Lilian found herself experiencing a sinking feeling. If Victoria only knew...

"Come on - let's go back to the locker room," she said, wanting nothing more than to avoid the subject of Edge and Lita. Lord knew, it was so painful for her redheaded best friend.

The darker woman eyed Lilian with suspicion, not missing the very obvious way she was trying to avoid answering her question. Well, whatever... If she wouldn't spill her guts, Victoria would just have to go and grill Lita herself...

Halfway on their way back to the women's locker room, they were startled by the sight of the redheaded diva. She was making her way down the hallway, her bag clutched over one shoulder, face looking unhappy, to say the least.

Victoria's eyes narrowed as she gazed at the retreating form of her friend.

"Lita!"

The redhead cast a quick glance in their direction but then faced forward and rushed past.

Victoria turned to Lilian again, a look of concern on her face.

"What's wrong with her?"

The ring announcer winced. She supposed things wouldn't have gone well when Edge had shown up. Still, she wondered exactly what had happened. She shook her head, glancing from Lita, whose form was growing smaller and smaller as she rushed further down the hall, then at the Women's champion.

"I don't know," she admitted. "But I suppose we'll find out soon enough."
