Field of Innocence

______________________________________________

Amy lay in the hospital bed, an odd numbness gripping her in spite of her myriad of pains. She couldn't even wince as she remained nearly motionless except for her eyes, which blinked in discomfort at the brightly shining overhead light.

She felt as though she were in the middle of some horrifying and impossible nightmare. Could this really be *her* and her fate? She remembered everything - every last brutalizing blow he'd delivered, how he'd torn off her clothes and then brutalized her some more, in the most humiliating and violating manner possible... Tearing and thrusting into her when she hadn't been ready or willing for him, taking away every last bit of her dignity and self-worth... She felt sick to the point of nausea just recalling it.

The redhead was actually surprised, even shocked at herself. How she was managing not to cry must have been nothing short of a miracle. Tonight had been the most horrible experience of her life, from its beginning up until now. All that disgusting, despicable violation and humiliation... The physical pain and mental anguish she felt was beyond even her own comprehension. Then, the humiliation had promptly returned the moment she'd been examined, the nurse administering the rape kit poking and prodding at her most intimate organs. She'd bitten down hard on her lip, possibly hard enough to actually draw blood, and hadn't uttered so much as a single syllable throughout the entire ordeal. All she'd wanted was for it to all end, and she'd shut her eyes tightly after too long. Maybe if she did that and blocked it all out of her mind, then what had happened to her could feel less real...

... But the tactic hadn't worked.

Amy felt lower than dirt, lower than sludge, and, worst of all, lower than shit. As far as she was concerned, she'd *allowed* that miserable excuse for a human being to do all this to her. She could have reported him, could have pressed charges... And yet, she'd sat idly by and kept her mouth shut and not done a damn thing. Damn it, she had brought this all upon herself.

"The people who brought you here want to see you."

She shifted her bloodshot hazel eyes toward the nurse, whom she hadn't even heard come back into her room. She wondered when the woman had meandered back in.

"I'm sorry if I startled you, sweetheart," the woman said, a soft, tiny smile gracing her lips. The nurse was in her early or mid-fifties, slightly overweight, and had dyed platinum blonde hair she'd wound up in a tight bun. "If you don't want any visitors right now, I'm sure your friends will understand."

"No, I..." Amy managed to creak out. She was dismayed at the dry hoarseness of her voice and realized how parched she was. She needed some water. The nurse seemed to realize this and came to her bedside to pour a plastic cup for her. "... I want to see them." To be honest, it was Adam... Adam was the one she wanted to see. Although she hated the idea of him having seen her in such a horrid state, and the humiliation that brought, she remembered that he'd held her and tried to comfort her on the way to the hospital. He'd held her and made her feel safe despite the situation.

But... On the other hand, how could she ever face him again after this? He had to know that something was awry between Matt and herself. Why else would he have appeared at her rescue after the cage match with Lisa Marie? Her memory worked slowly as the ache in her head throbbed dully. She remembered - the match had nearly been over. Lisa Marie had all but defeated her, and Matt had crept ringside, maniacal glee in his face as she'd crawled over toward the door of the cage. Only when she'd been within an inch or less to escaping the cage, she'd found out why he'd been donning such an expression - and then she'd winced and seen stars as he'd smashed the cage door into her head. Tears filled her eyes.

She sniffled and held back the sobs and the tears that had built up as the nurse returned - again, she hadn't even been aware that the woman had left her room - to bring Randy Orton and Lisa Marie to visit her.
