In The End

"Amy...are you all right?  What is it?  What's the matter, sweetheart?"

The distraught redhead raised her head reluctantly, her tearful gaze meeting the concerned emerald-green eyes of Adam Copeland.

"I...It's..."  She was unable to conclude her thought, and, past her breaking point, she sank against the tall Canadian and sobbed.

Adam held onto her with one arm, hugging her slender form against him.  It made him feel horrible to see her like this.  In fact, he couldn't remember ever seeing her this upset.  Somehow, he knew there was only one reason she would be crying like this - it had to be because of Kurt.

"Come on...come with me," the blond man said softly.  Without moving his arm from around her waist, he ushered her into his hotel room.

Amy continued to cry as he shut the door behind them, and he felt horrible, wishing there was something he could do to make things better.  However, if he was correct in his assumptions of why she was so upset, it was up to no one but Kurt - or herself - to accomplish that.

Adam wrapped an arm around the redhead's waist again, drawing her to the bed, where they sat side-by-side.  Amy wrapped her arms around his waist and just clung to him for a moment as she continued to sob.  Before long, she was beginning to hiccup.

The Canadian reluctantly left her to retrieve a cup of water from the bathroom.  She accepted it and took a couple of gulps before speaking.

"I-I'm sorry..."

"What?  Why?" he asked, confused.

"I have no right to cry all over you like this," the diva spoke, her voice wavering a little.

"Ames, we're friends, and we have been for awhile now.  If you need my shoulder to cry on, I'm here for you."  He placed one hand beneath her chin, raising her head up to meet her eyes as he spoke.  "Don't ever forget that, okay?"

She nodded silently, two new tears forming in her hazel orbs.  Adam thought his heart might break at how very sad she looked - and was.

"Now," he began, "what is it that made you so sad that you're crying like this?"

Amy's gaze slid lower for a beat, her lips trembling slightly as she was about to sob again.  Then, raising her eyes and meeting his, she said, in a soft voice, "K-Kurt..."

Kurt... He knew it.  He'd known right off the bat that this had to have everything to do with her Olympic Gold Medalist boyfriend.  Damn him!

The blond man wondered what the man had done or said this time.  Although he had become good friends with Angle in late 1999, he'd become even better friends with the woman who'd later become his girlfriend.

Also, over the last couple of months, Kurt had turned into a real ass.  The last time Adam had hung out with the Olympian - which had been about three weeks earlier - Amy had also been there - and, along with his best friend, Jay Reso, Shane McMahon and his girlfriend, Lisa Moretti, the group had gone to a club.  Not only had Angle guzzled more beer than he could have ever imagined, he had started a huge fight with the redhead as well - in front of all their friends as well as the strangers around them.

The diva had obviously been furious and embarrassed, and Adam didn't blame her.  Kurt's behavior had been totally uncalled for.  Amy had gotten up and stormed out of the club in her anger, probably to cool off.  He'd wanted to go after her, but when Lisa had gotten up and said she was going to see the other woman herself, Adam had remained in his seat.

Now, as he gazed at the redhead, he couldn't help but wonder why she was still with Angle.  Sure, they'd invested a year and a half in their relationship thus far, but she deserved so much better.  Kurt didn't seem to be the same guy she'd fallen for - especially when he drank.

The Canadian's heart sank at the plain sorrow written across the diva's lovely face.  He wanted to hold her, to kiss her - make her forget all about Kurt Angle - take away every last bit of her pain... He wondered if, were he to show her exactly how he truly felt about her if she would forget about the Olympian and give him a chance...
