Feelin' Rated R

April 27, 2010

Hey! Okay, I know this has been a long, LONG time coming, with more than three years since the last issue, but I feel the need to get this off my chest...

Last night on RAW, the annual draft saw Edge get drafted to the red brand. Personally, I was hoping he would stay put on SmackDown. In fact, I felt absolutely confident he would remain on SmackDown after the backstage segment between Edge and World Champion Jack Swagger. Although, I will admit, each time RAW earned a draft pick, a part of me was screaming in the back of my mind that Edge would end up being chosen. I actually enjoyed it back in 2002, during the first draft, when the respective General Managers actually SPOKE the names of wrestlers they wanted for their shows. It's a shame that those days are long gone and that everything, much like everything in general in this day and age, are automated.

Okay, I digress with that... Here is my actual point with this issue: For those of you who did watch RAW in its entirety last night, you probably already know where I'm headed. I made mention of it on the forum, I complained about it on the site's Twitter... So, the million dollar question here is this - Did Edge turn heel again last night? I was updating my Maryse site and watching RAW on my screencapper on my computer when suddenly, a blur of black and blond caught my eye. Of course, it could be no one else but our beloved Edge. Seconds earlier, Randy Orton had delivered an RKO to Sheamus and seemed about to win the triple-threat match between the two and Batista to earn a shot against John Cena for his WWE Championship.

Unfortunately, it was not to be as Edge indeed ran into the ring and gave Orton a spear. My stomach dropped all the way to my toes as I witnessed Batista, of all people, place a hand over Randy's chest for the victory. And being the Batista hater that I am, did I feel disgusted!

Edge didn't look disappointed with what he'd done. In fact, he appeared rather... gleeful, smug. I have to admit, I'm still very confused about it. On one hand, I keep wondering, Who the heck booked this garbage?! On another, I am not exactly sure what to make of Edge's actions... Did he turn heel? Is the old Rated R Superstar we all know back? And if so, why would he be back THIS soon? Edge only returned as a face three months ago. If the WWE had his character go back to being heel, it's greatly disappointing. Like many other fans, I've been enjoying his run as a babyface. He is very over with the fans, and while he's always been an amazing heel, he's been doing a terrific job as a face. I have to question all of this. Randy Orton is clearly a face and has been since the whole Legacy feud. I wouldn't mind a feud between him and Edge, but just not now, and not with Edge as the heel!

Another thing is that, when Chris Jericho was also drafted to RAW a bit later, I fully expected that the feud with him and Edge would continue. However, after Edge's actions of last night, it seems doubtful.

So, why did Edge attack Orton and allow Batista to become the #1 contender for John Cena's title? I am hoping at least that that wasn't his goal. Why befriend Batista in any way, shape or form? Where would that ever get anyone? I doubt this is any motivation for the action, but then what about Edge vs John Cena for the WWE Championship? Clearly, Edge has always had the title in his sights. I, for one, know I don't want to see the two feuding for the zillionth time.

I don't really know what else to say about this, but I'll end by admitting that I'm anxious to see the aftermath. I just wonder what everyone else thinks, and if you're as confused and disappointed as I am.
