Feelin' Rated R

January 21, 2007

Hi, and welcome to yet another edition of Feelin' Rated R. I felt like writing today, which is why you're reading this right now. And I do apologize for being so far and few between with the column.

First order of business - I want to say that I was very saddened when I found out about the passing of Scott "Bam Bam" Bigelow. I was always a huge fan of him since the 80s when he debuted in the then WWF, and it was just a horrible shock to learn he had died. R.I.P. to the greatest big man the pro-wrestling business has ever seen.

Now, onto the main topic at hand - Edge. Things have changed quite a bit since my last issue of this column. Edge of course ended up dropping the WWE Championship back to John Cena in their TLC match at Unforgiven, and Amy "Lita" Dumas has left the company. Edge has been aligned with and tag team champs with Randy Orton for awhile now, all for the sake of ending D-Generation X. Triple H recently tore his right quad and is out of action, as you all know. That leaves Shawn Michaels all alone (aside from the occasional would-be assist from Ric Flair). Therefore, would it make more sense to just forget about all this "Killing DX" business?

The answer to the above question is yes, of course it would. But the WWE doesn't always make much sense, does it? Last Monday saw Rated RKO in a handicap match against HBK, who had such odds stacked against him. However, Michaels emerged the winner. Some Edge fans dislike the pairing of the Rated R Superstar and the Legend Killer and can't wait for there to be a split. Some think one will turn on the other. Not to take a dig at those particular fans, but I find it ironic that some of you are the same people who loved the Edge/Lita pairing and never wanted to see a split between them. Well, you got your wish on the latter - the romantic pairing never did split. At the same time, it seems unlikely the alliance between Edge and Orton will end anytime soon. Actually, I doubt they'll even split in the "desired" fashion. Most likely, they would probably drift apart after another tag team (probably Cryme Tyme) takes the gold off of them. With Shawn Michaels alone in "DX," and with him requiring surgery on his knee, it's entirely possible that something might happen in the near future where Rated RKO do end up taking him out. It may not be in a match, but I can definitely see it happening. I'm going to guess that tomorrow will probably be a continuation from last week's RAW. Personally, I find the whole DX thing extremely stale, but I'm glad Edge is not constantly jobbing out to John Cena anymore.

That's it for this issue. Hope you all enjoyed reading!
