Adam Weekly - Issue # 71

Hi, all! Welcome to this week's issue of Adam Weekly. Well, this week, there is certainly a lot to talk about, isn't there?

First things first - I have to say that I was absolutely shocked that Edge lost the WWE Championship to John Cena at the Royal Rumble last week. This had to be the biggest shock I've had in watching WWE programming in quite awhile. He was really on a roll, having amazing matches and segments, promos, drawing in HUGE ratings for RAW, and yet it seems as though it were all for nil. This was truly disappointing. And Cena getting the win the previous week on RAW in the tag team match and then making Edge tap out to score the victory and regain the title just doesn't add up to the usual "formula," if you will.

By now, I'm sure that most of you reading this have read the rumors as to why the title was taken off of Edge in so short a time. In only three weeks, he was bringing in the highest ratings RAW had seen in years. People were tuning in to see what the Rated R Superstar and his lady love would do next. And, according to rumors, this didn't sit well with Triple H. If this is indeed true (and we all know how much stroke and power Triple H has backstage), then it's pathetic. Edge had quickly gotten to be the biggest and best heel on RAW, and apparently the boss' son-in-law can't handle that, because that is how he sees himself. He sees Edge as a threat. The other scenario I have read is that the WWE merely gave Edge the championship for awhile as a means of taking heat off of John Cena, who, of course is a babyface but was suddenly getting tons of heat from the fans. In either case, it doesn't make any sense. Edge should have held onto the title at least until WrestleMania 22. He has a ton of charisma, is a master at promos, great in the ring, and has worked his ass off for this. He deserved a longer run - a MUCH longer run. We can only hope that this is just a minor setback and that he will regain the championship again soon.

Also buzzing around the internet this past week is supposed news that Edge will be facing Mick Foley at WrestleMania 22 as opposed to fighting John Cena for the WWE title. I am beginning to think this may actually come to fruition because of the fact that Foley mentioned Edge (but in a sympathetic and supportive way) in his blog on WWE.com. On top of this, Edge did mention Foley's name the week before on RAW when he said he would "not become a transitional champion." I can possibly see Edge mentioning Foley's blog, twisting the words around and calling him out - therefore, starting up a new feud.

The other issue being discussed left and right this week has been Lita hitting Edge in the head with the WWE title belt this past week on RAW. The typical fan sees this whole thing as Lita turning on Edge, and an imminent split of the couple. No offense, but that is the sort of idea someone who has been watching for a year, maybe two tops, would get. Over this past week, there has been so much milking of this that it simply CAN'T be leading to a split - at least not this time, folks. Keep in mind that Edge was the one who called for Lita to get the belt. Now, why would she deliberately strike - Cena OR Edge - when the referee had already come to and risen to his feet to see it? Her actions caused Cena to get disqualified, which means Edge is still the number one contender and will get another title shot. Edge and Cena both looked confused after the incident, as RAW was ending. Lita, on the other hand, seemed emotionless. But the question is this - was Edge REALLY confused, or was he just faking it? My money is on the latter, and I believe he and Lita have some scheme brewing.

Tomorrow night on RAW, some questions may be answered - but I have a feeling this will be drawn out for a few weeks yet. Be sure to watch and listen carefully. And come back next week right here for a new issue!
