Adam Weekly - Issue # 64

Hi, and welcome to this week's new issue.

As expected, this past week on RAW, Edge and Lita debuted their talk show, The Cutting Edge. At first, I'll admit, I really wasn't sure what to expect. Ric Flair not showing up made sense after I'd read about his situation on one of the wrestling news sites (so, they actually got something right for a change...). What happened afterward was a bit of a surprise, though. I expected another superstar to come out in place of Flair, like maybe The Big Show, since he's been in Triple H's face about what The Game has done to Ric.

First of all, let me just express my feelings about The Cutting Edge, and how it debuted. Well, I guess technically, you can say that it was first unveiled at Survivor Series, but I think it was somewhat mild in comparison to what we saw on RAW last week. Yes, Edge made a comment toward a Major League baseball player about steroids and amphetamines, but the show on RAW went a bit farther. Michael Hayes and Sargeant Slaughter came out to get Edge and Lita out of the ring, Hayes saying that the boss said that was enough, "show's over." Who thought that Edge and Lita would shut up and do as the former Freebird said? Because anyone who did apparently doesn't know them very well.

Of course, a mini-brawl broke out when the order was ignored. Most of the insults were hurled around by Edge, but Lita did a great job of it as well as she called Hayes and Sarge "two legends who earn a check by kissing Vince McMahon's ass." Then, Edge took it a few steps further when the former Freebird shoved at him - he asked Hayes if he was going to take a swing at him, and then answered his own question, saying he wouldn't do that because he had no backup - because his best friend, Terry Gordy, is dead.

It was a shocking moment, but then, that's exactly what Edge is going for with The Cutting Edge. I didn't quite know what to make of the above comment at first. It sort of bothered me because of Eddy Guerrero's death last month, and knowing that he was a close friend of Adam Copeland's. I thought about it and figured that the Terry Gordy comment had to be maybe the only scripted part, since it would obviously be unfair to say something like that and not okay it with Michael Hayes, and with Gordy's family. After all, death is a very touchy subject, and the comment came off as being very controversial. I'll tell you all right now - I even got an email from some angry fan ranting and raving like a lunatic (some of you may have noticed the same comments posted on the HaloScan under the RAW update before I deleted them). The email ended with something like, "You suck, Adam!" People, chill out! It's a storyline, and the comment was scripted!

One thing everyone has to acknowledge is that this past week and The Cutting Edge has definitely cemented Edge and Lita as being even bigger heels than they already were. The comments, the actions - I loved Lita jumping on Hayes' back to give an assist to her man - and the little celebration afterward were just awesome. And I, for one, can't wait to see what happens tomorrow night on RAW. Let's hope for another edition of The Cutting Edge!
