Adam Weekly - Issue # 35

Hi, and welcome to an all new issue of Adam Weekly. Sorry for no column entry last week, but I was afraid of repeating myself with issue # 34. Anyway, onward for this week's installment...

Well, things were certainly not boring for Edge this week on RAW. He faced Chris Jericho in a pre-SummerSlam grudge match that was actually pretty surprising. Not surprising was the fact that the contest was intense and exciting, with the momentum shifting between the two competitors. What *was* surprising, at least to me, was that Jericho was the one who solely engaged in the unfair tactics. Y2J took the opportunity to poke Edge in the eye a couple of times as well as steal the victory by pinning his opponent with his feet up on the middle rope. That is something we've all come to expect (and perhaps even *love*) from the heel Chris Jericho, but not from the face variety of the man. It was an interesting turn of events, however, particularly because Edge himself had employed the latter method to win his most recent match against Randy Orton and his bout against Batista in utilizing the ropes to lead him to his victories.

The other event that took place on RAW this week was, of course, the beatdown of Edge by Batista immediately following his loss to Jericho. For a minute there, Y2J seemed concerned as he looked on, seemingly perhaps about to go to the aid of his (former?) friend. But it never did happen. Instead, Jericho walked away and let Edge get the crap beaten out of him. This could very well be the event that secures Edge's win at SummerSlam, thus retaining his Intercontinental Championship. After this past week, he has some revenge to exact against not only one, but *two* opponents.

An interesting idea came to me about a week ago, even prior to RAW. There is still lots of talk about Edge very possibly and probably turning heel come tonight, or tomorrow night on RAW - and I have an idea about how it can be helped along. I don't know how possible it is now, though - but suppose Christian returns at SummerSlam, as he'd been rumored to be doing. Everyone knows about the problems between him and Chris Jericho, and his relationship with Edge (I'm starting to wonder if the WWE is going to remember that they were supposed to be 'brothers'). If Christian was to come to the ring during the triple-threat IC title match and help Edge to retain, it would be a great way to help the heel turn happen. It would secure a reunion of Edge and Christian and also ensure without a doubt that Edge and Jericho would be enemies. This, of course, is just my personal theory, but I doubt it'll happen since Chrisitan's return has been pushed back till the end of this month.

Anyhow, call me stubborn or blind, or whatever, but I am still not completely convinced Edge is going to fully turn, at least just yet. Last week's RAW and his appearance on the Highlight Reel only proved to be a tease, at least for me. When Edge had that steel chair in his hand, he could have very well smashed Jericho with it, but instead he chose to toss it down and go to help Y2J. That is not the way a heel behaves. They're usually not so rational. I'm wondering if maybe Edge will start off as a tweener. But in a nutshell, this is stuff that will probably be delved into a bit more tonight during SummerSlam.

Speaking of SummerSlam, I'm going to make my predictions for the matches now. Here goes...

Booker T Vs. John Cena (U.S. Title Match): I'm really torn over this one. I like both guys, and both are great athletes, but I'll try to make a prediction here... I'm going to say Cena because he was screwed out of the title which he never *lost*.

Rey Mysterio, Billy Kidman and Paul London vs. Dudley Boyz and Spike: After what recently happened with Spike turning (though he was obviously in on it with his brothers the whole time, it seems), Rey has a plenty of revenge he needs to take, on all three Dudleys. I think he, Kidman and London are going to win.

Eddy Guerrero Vs. Kurt Angle: This one is another toughie! Way to close to tell, but I'm going to guess Kurt is going to pick up the victory.

Undertaker Vs. JBL (WWE Title Match): Since I despise JBL and find him extremely undeserving of the title, I would *hope* 'Taker wins this one! And he's been kicking ass for 14 years now, said asses belonging to much bigger and better than that of JBL, so I'm going with him to win and become the new champion!

Triple H Vs. Eugene: What is even the point with all the brutality against William Regal the last two weeks? It's not as though Eugene wasn't already raring to beat Triple H senseless! I gotta go with Eugene on this one! And hopefully, Mr. 'Schnoz' will be scarce for awhile after the loss.

Kane Vs. Matt Hardy (Death Do Us Part Match - Winner Marries Lita): I despise this angle, for so many different reasons, but I totally see one of two things happening - either Lita helps Kane beat Matt (whether 'inadvertently' ala Trish Stratus at WrestleMania 20 during Chris Jericho and Christian's match or very overtly deliberately) or else Kane defeats him on his own - but either way, I see Kane winning, and Lita turning heel on Matt. My ideal scenario, of course, would be if Lita turns on *both*, then announces that the true father of her baby is Edge (as I said a few issues ago, it would be a *perfect* way for *both* of them to turn heel), but I don't see that happening.

RAW Divas Vs. Diva Hopefuls (Diva Dodgeball): Who cares??! Why couldn't they have the seven divas against the seven wannabes in a *match*? Oh, sorry, that's right - because the wannabes aren't around to ever *wrestle*. But anyway, I digress... Isn't it obvious that Trish, Victoria, Stacy, Jazz, Molly, Nidia and Gail are going to win?

Edge Vs. Batista Vs. Chris Jericho (Triple-Threat Intercontinental Title Match): While I see Edge and Jericho in particular going after one another quite a bit in this match, I also see the two of them scuffling a lot with Batista as well. Although they've had their differences lately, neither Edge nor Jericho like Batista. It does seem as though the big Evolution member might have the biggest advantage of the three, though - he wasn't friends with either of the other guys, while Jericho and Edge were buddies. Edge, of course, has a little vengeance to hand down to both of his challengers, which could give him (pardon the pun) an edge. And because of this, I see him walking out retaining the IC title.

Chris Benoit Vs. Randy Orton (World Heavyweight Title Match): While Randy is an amazing athlete and there's no disputing that, he's still very young and green. Benoit has held onto the Championship for five months since WrestleMania 20 and has as much heart and dedication as anyone ever had, so he will be more than tough to face. And let's not forget that the Wolverine made Orton tap in the center of the ring this past week on RAW, even though it was not in an actual match. My money's on Benoit.

That does it for this week's issue. Enjoy SummerSlam if you're ordering it, and be sure to catch RAW tomorrow night!
