Once beloved by the fans for her extreme ways, Lita is now one of the most despised Divas in WWE. Aligned with Edge since May 2005, Lita no longer cares what the fans think of her, standing by the Rated R Superstar no matter what derogatory chants the fans send in her direction. Since hooking up with Edge, Lita has had no problem saying what’s on her mind or doing whatever it takes to help her man be successful, often finding herself in the midst of controversy as a result.

At WrestleMania 22, Lita will be at ringside when Edge takes on Mick Foley in a Hardcore Match. The Rated R Superstar has never lost at WrestleMania, but will be stepping into the Hardcore Legend’s domain on April 2 after accepting his challenge. Before that happens, however, Foley will be Edge & Lita’s guest on the Cutting Edge at Saturday Night’s Main Event on March 18.

The issue between Edge and Foley began on the Feb. 16 RAW, when Foley was the guest referee for Edge’s match with WWE Champion John Cena. Cena was victorious, and while it seemed that Foley had been an impartial referee. Edge didn’t see it that way. Following the loss, The Rated R Superstar blamed Foley for screwing him and gave the Hardcore Legend a spear. The next week, Edge challenged Foley to a WrestleMania match, giving him one week to respond. When it came time for Foley’s answer, the Hardcore Legend instead offered a challenge of his own for a Hardcore Match at Mania.

On the March 6 RAW, after Lita defeated Maria, Edge set the bubbly Diva up for a spear. Instead, Foley ran in to stop the Rated R Superstar and the two brawled. Edge eventually nailed Foley with a spear, following that with a one-man Conchairto. As the Hardcore Legend lay unconscious in the ring, Edge announced his acceptance of Foley’s challenge.

With her fiery red hair and trademark shoulder tattoo, Lita is recognized anywhere she goes, even if she is no longer embraced by the fans.

After a short stint in ECW, Lita made her WWE debut in 2000 alongside Essa Rios. She quickly led Rios to the Light Heavyweight Championship that February, but the pair split a few months later. Lita then hooked up with the Hardy Boyz, beginning a partnership that would last nearly five years.

After a brief rivalry with Stephanie McMahon, Lita won the Women’s Championship from her in August 2000. After losing the gold, Lita took on more of a managerial role for the Hardys while still competing from time to time. It was in those early days that the long and heated rivalry between Lita and Trish Stratus began, as the two first locked horns while Trish managed Test & Albert against Lita’s Hardy Boyz.

Trish & Lita would put aside their differences in July 2001 to defeat Stacy Keibler & Torrie Wilson in a Bra & Panties Match at InVasion. During this same time, Lita began dating Matt Hardy, who was having trouble with brother Jeff. Lita was at ringside for their match at Vengeance that December, but after Undertaker put all three of them out of commission, they returned stronger than ever at the 2002 Royal Rumble.

In March 2002, Lita was drafted to RAW as the brand’s No. 10 pick in the brand extension draft. Before she could make an impact, Lita suffered a severe neck injury while filming an episode of FOX’s Dark Angel. The injury required major neck surgery that put Lita out of action for a year and a half.

During her time away, Lita spent time as a commentator on both HEAT and Velocity. She returned to the ring in September 2003, once again siding with Trish to help her fend off Molly Holly & Gail Kim. Shortly after, Matt Hardy returned to RAW from SmackDown, but turned against Lita. Christian & Chris Jericho stepped in to help her, and a bizarre love scenario began between Lita, Trish, Christian and Jericho. This would become only be the first of many flare-ups in Lita’s turbulent love life.

Eventually, Trish would side with Christian and Lita with Jericho, and Lita and Trish were at odds once again. She became the object of Kane’s affection, bringing Matt Hardy back into her life once again. The two reconciled as the Big Red Monster continued to stalk Lita, and she agreed to something unknown to keep him from destroying Hardy. Finally, Lita announced that she was pregnant, but that knowledge that she was carrying Kane’s baby strained her relationship with Hardy once again.

At SummerSlam, Hardy & Kane fought in a Til Death Do Us Part match; Kane won, giving him the right to marry Lita. Against Lita’s better wishes, the ceremony was performed on RAW the following week, and Kane put Hardy out of action after a vicious assault.

That October, a tragic accident caused by Gene Snitsky resulted in the loss of Kane’s baby. With Lita in the hospital, Snitsky put Kane out of action at Taboo Tuesday, and Lita was alone again. Once again ready to compete in the ring, she targeted Stratus, who held the Women’s Championship. Lita defeated her arch rival on RAW that December to claim her second Women’s Championship. Unfortunately, Lita’s brief momentum would take a dive when she injured her knee during a rematch at New Year’s Revolution in January.

Lita would return in March, training Christy Hemme to take on Trish at WrestleMania 21. She also began to escort her estranged husband Kane to the ring once again, manipulating him to help her take out Trish. Strangely, the two began to truly fall for one another and a flame ignited…or so everyone thought. Managing to defeat several RAW Superstars during the May 2005 Gold Rush Tournament, Kane was poised for victory in the finals against Edge, a victory which would grant him a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. However, Lita betrayed her husband, costing him the match and revealing her true alliance with Edge..

In the following weeks on RAW, Lita revealed her sensational relationship with Edge, driving Kane to the brink of madness before finally returning to his monstrous ways by crashing the Edge & Lita wedding in June 2005. At the same time, it became public knowledge that Lita’s relationship with Edge had broken up her relationship with Matt Hardy, and Hardy returned to WWE to get retribution.

Throughout the summer of 2005, Lita stood by Edge’s side as he battled her former boyfriend tooth and nail. After months of dealing with Hardy, Edge defeated him at RAW Homecoming in a Money in the Bank Ladder Match, sending Hardy to SmackDown in the process.

Over the next several months, Lita & Edge picked a fight with anyone who dared to disagree with them. All the while, Edge held onto his Money in the Bank Championship Match that he won at WrestleMania 21, waiting for the perfect time to cash in. hat came at New Year’s Revolution in January 2006, when he cashed in and defeated John Cena for the gold.

Edge & Lita held a live sex celebration the next night on RAW, a scene that turned out to be one of the most controversial RAW moments ever. In fact, Edge’s reign as WWE Champion drew RAW’s highest ratings in months, further fueling his ego. The ride would end quickly, as Cena regained the gold just three weeks later at the Royal Rumble.

The night after the Rumble, Edge used his rematch clause and defeated Cena by disqualification, earning himself another opportunity. The next week, he & Lita lost a Mixed Tag Team Match to Cena & Maria, giving Cena the right to choose the special referee for the next rematch, which turned out to be Mick Foley.
