AMY CHRISTINE DUMAS » THE DIVINE MISS DUMAS » ISSUE #4

The Best There Is, The Best There Was, The Best There Ever Will Be

It's hard to get your head around really, as an Amy fan. She's gone from the WWE. We don't know how long for or whether she'll be back but the forseeable future, Amy won't be in the WWE and not seeing her will be hard to get our heads around.

I could talk about last night and the Cryme Tyme segment and whether it should have been shown or not but I see that as a tedious five minute joke that doesn't really want much publicity. Unfortunately, my cable didn't work so I missed the pay-per-view but my reaction to it was neutral. It will be interesting to hear Amy's views on it - that is for sure.

What saddens me the most is that Amy is going and we won't see her coming out to put on a great women's match or coming out to be one half of what is to my money, the greatest couple to have been in wrestling. I don't exaggerate on this, to me, they are even better than Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth. They brought something so strong to the WWE, such great dynamics to the title scene and Adam and Amy should be commended for what they've done. They rose above all the bullshit from the crowd. It must have been hard at some points but they have both kept going and given us such memorable moments.

For all the complaints, falling outs and arguments Amy Dumas fans have had with each other, one thing remains true and completely agreed on. Amy Dumas is an inspiration. She always has been. There has never been a diva who can merge being a great wrestler, being stunningly beautiful and being so real so well like Amy can. In the days of bikini models and diva searches, being real is something that's taken for granted. But even during tedious and unfunny "slut" jokes, there is something about Amy that is so likeable and real. I'm using "real" a lot and what I mean is that she is not what you would call your traditional "bombshell." She doesn't look totally airbrushed and fake but dammit, she's more attractive and has more personality than any other. That's not an insult to the other talented divas but Amy has always had that one thing that's stood out and that is simply that she is real. You see her passion and drive for the business every time she steps out there. Her love for the fans.

Some fans turned on her when she left Matt Hardy. They called her the most vile names, said the most horrible things about her because of a personal decision she made. Evidently, they wanted to try and break her. But these brainless idiots found the joke was on them because Adam and Amy came through it and came out of it better. They won their respective top championships twice each. They were in the main event and although talented enough to get there without the idiots, they did it and shoved it back in their faces. Amy's rant was spot on. Fans have short memories and anyone who can forget what Amy did for them just so they can play judge and jury over her life should really take a long hard look at themselves. She revolutionalised the women's division. Although not the first to get the style down, she bought it into the mainstream. The pops the Litacanrana and the moonsaults got were incredible. She was the punk with attitude, she stood toe to toe with the guys and captured the imagination in a way that no diva has done before and in a way that I don't think any other diva will. As a heel, she was a huge part of great segments and carried the role off with such a charisma that was so enjoyable to watch. Who could forget the first promo after the first Edge/Lita kiss? It must have been hard, yet she got through it with total aplomb.

Amy deserves the best. I know that I have had my arguments with Amy fans and spoke about her personal life on message boards when I probably should have kept my mouth shut, but hearing the abuse Amy gets is hard. Why should I listen to somebody get abused when they absolutely and totally don't deserve it? I don't deny there's been arguments like "is she with Adam?" or "is she friends with Matt?" and I'm sure we'll get the answers in due course. Whatever she does though, she deserves respect. Total respect for being the best damned wrestler, the best damned valet, the best face, the best heel and from what I hear, the sweetest, most amazing person to her fans. I think what a lot of fans have got to remember about Amy is that none of them know her. It is the nature of fandom not to know the person you admire, because how can you when it's one-sided admiration? A fan/hero relationship barely gets past that stage as the fan only knows the celebrity from their business and would only spend time with them in that way. The only way to truly know Amy is to be around her, to admire her outside of what she presents to the public, but what I can say though, is that Amy is the best. I might not know her, but I can say with total confidence that she is the best and I could argue with anyone who tries and tells me otherwise.

We have the Luchagors. We have ADORE. And maybe one day, she'll be back in that ring, taking names and kicking ass.

In the meantime, I want to acknowledge some people:

-- The AOTE and Always Amy forum has always supported Amy in everything she has done, has never judged her and has always stood by her.
-- Renee, who owns this website. She's always had the ultimate respect for Amy and Adam and runs the best website on the Internet for them.
-- The WWE for giving Amy the push she has gotten over the last seven years and giving her the chance to show off her talent.
-- Adam Copeland - without whom my favourite couple could never have happened.
-- Trish Stratus for all the great feuds.
-- And finally Amy Dumas for just being Amy Dumas.

The best there is, the best there was and the best ever will be applies to two people. It always will.

Dan
